Laura Mysak launched her career as a textile designer in 2004, creating unique designs for umbrellas and accessories. Since then she has become a highly successful fashion and furnishings print designer specialising in hand drawing and painting.

Born in Fife in 1980, to two artistic parents; her father an illustrator, her mother a textile artist, Laura grew up in an environment in which she was always encouraged to develop her drawing and design skills. "I have vivid memories of sketching portraits of my father while he sketched a portrait of me; then, when we finished we'd turn our drawing boards round to reveal our efforts which were sometimes quite amusing."

Laura studied Printed Textiles at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee where she worked predominantly in watercolour, acrylic and mixed media; her sketches directly influencing her printed pieces. A Masters in Textiles at Winchester School of Art, helped to cement in Laura her desire to explore the potential of hand drawn elements in commercial print design.

She went on to spend 3 years working for an umbrella and accessories supplier to the UK High Street, where she gained an invaluable insight into collection building and design account management. Her quirky designs, using hand drawn motifs, proved a hit with Marks and Spencers and Next to name but two.

With aspirations of moving into the field of high fashion Laura joined a leading supplier of womenswear/ nightwear/ lingerie and childrenswear as a Senior CAD Designer specialising in creating successful print solutions using hand drawn artwork. Her flair for watercolour florals and character illustrations proved popular and quickly earned her the reputation of being 'a good draw-er' and able to tackle virtually any project assigned to her.

Alongside her print for fashion design Laura has been developing an extensive portfolio of furnishing/ bedding designs for the markets in the Far East in particular. Her unique take on the 'English Country Garden' look is going down well with the Chinese and Korean bedding manufacturers who view her designs as extremely well executed for their clientele.

Looking to the future, Laura plans to travel with husband Greg, leaving the hustle and bustle of a busy commercial studio behind to pursue more cultural stimulation from the arts and crafts of such exotic nations as Peru and Chile, New Zealand and Australia and Thailand and China. She aims to immerse herself in everything non-British for a while and experience what the rest of the world has to offer.

As a long term dream, Laura hopes to one day set up her own business creating work which draws on her varied experiences of commercial design for fashion and furnishing and her extensive research into the practises of hand drawn artwork in print alongside influences from the different cultures she will come across on her travels.
